One thing I have on my wall that I wake up to every morning is retire by 30. Retirement, for me, is when you stop sacrificing today for tomorrow. I told Dennis that on the airport tape after we came off Mt Bierstadt.
He retired at 25 by that definition. He also said the freedom version of that number can arrive earlier if the bills are covered and the tastes are not extravagant. I said I think so too.
The life I would be living anyway
On episode one he asked what I would do if money did not matter. Hang out with interesting people. Kilimanjaro. A 14er. We were already climbing Bierstadt the next morning. Avoca brought me to meet specific people. I also wanted to be there. If I were not paying rent, would I be in a very different scenario? In many ways I am already living the list.
That is the test I want an owner to see. Not a pitch about FIRE. A person who will hike at 5 a.m. with the same people he is supposed to “demo.”
